Staying abreast of things
One survivor’s thoughts on things serious and humorous; breast cancer, pomeranians, marriage, psychotherapy, faith, and MORE.Christmas? Oh, the shame of it.
My first Christmas didn’t include a tree. My parents had recently resigned as Jehovah’s Witnesses, but they still weren’t free enough to do the whole Christmas thing. Instead they hid presents all over the house and tied a string to them for each kid. Each kid followed a string to a very few gifts. It was wonderful. I remember when big colored lights and silvery tinsel made a tree gorgeous, not garish. I don’t remember when Christmas became a hassle, but some time after the Reason for the season became real to me, the pushing and tugging of Xmas folderol became a drag and embarrassment. We left the country one Christmas, but found we missed the community part of the holyday. Since our kids are adults we have cut way back, but not enough to relieve my cognitive dissonance (25cents, please).
Advent Conspiracy is a brilliant, profound butt-kicking to end Christmas consumerism and make a contribution to solving the global water crisis.
